    Good day Mark,

Please first make sure both Windows and New Outlook are fully up to date.

In New Outlook, predictive text is called Text Predictions. To enable it, please follow the steps provided in the AI Answer. I've attached a screenshot of the instructions to give you a clearer visual reference:

The same settings are available in Outlook on the web.

If you don't see Smart Suggestions, please confirm that you are using New Outlook and not Classic Outlook.

If you are using Classic Outlook:

    Open a new email.

Select File > Options > Mail.

Under Compose messages, enable Show text predictions while typing.

    Select OK.

If Smart Suggestions or Text Predictions is still missing after updating and restarting Outlook, please let me know and share a screenshot of your Mail settings page.

I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In new Outlook for Windows, predictive text is controlled here:

    1. Select Settings at the top of the window.
    2. Select Mail > Smart suggestions.
    3. Under Text predictions, select Suggest words or phrases as I type.
    4. Select Save.

If Text predictions is not shown under Smart suggestions, the available context does not provide another supported new Outlook setting to enable it.

To use predictive text when it appears:

    • Press Tab, or
    • Press the Right arrow key

If the issue is actually in classic Outlook, the setting is different:

    1. While writing an email, go to File > Options.
    2. Select Mail.
    3. Under Compose messages, select Show text predictions while typing.
    4. Select OK.

Also, a known issue affected classic Outlook where the text predictions option could be missing. That issue was fixed on May 20, 2025 for Current Channel, Monthly Enterprise Channel, Beta Channel, and Current Channel Preview. The feature is not available in Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview) or Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel.
