Hi Carla Coonradt,
Thank you for sharing the details. I’d like to help narrow down whether this is affecting Windows more broadly, QuickBooks itself or the company file.
When you have a moment, could you please confirm the following?
- Which QuickBooks Desktop year and edition are you using?
- Are any other apps freezing or showing the spinning blue circle or is QuickBooks the only one affected?
- Are the Start menu, Settings, File Explorer and Microsoft Store opening normally?
- Does QuickBooks show as Not responding in Task Manager?
- If you hold the Ctrl key while launching QuickBooks, does the No Company Open window appear?
- Press Windows key + R, enter winver and select OK. What Windows version and OS build are shown?
- Which KB updates appear for September 8 and September 10 under Settings > Windows Update > Update history?
If other apps or Windows features are also affected, I suggest testing a clean boot or a new Windows user account to check for a Windows or background-service conflict.
If QuickBooks is the only affected app, close it through Task Manager and run Quick Fix my Program from the latest QuickBooks Tool Hub. If QuickBooks opens while holding Ctrl but freezes when you select the company file, the issue may be connected to that file or its saved windows.
For now, I recommend not uninstalling the Windows updates until the Windows build, KB numbers and test results are available. Please share what you find and I’ll be glad to advise you on the next steps.
