Update KB3161102

Hi

Windows Update offered update KB3161102 as an optional recommended update for my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32bit system.   On investigating I have discovered the update is is for allowing the removal of the Windows Journal Component which is now considered a security risk.  Microsoft recommend replacing it with OneNote.  I do not use Windows Journal and am unlikely to require OneNote either so replacement won't be an issue.

I have downloaded and installed the update.  I presume that, as I no longer can see Windows Journal on my system, KB3161102 has already done its work but it has not provided any feedback.  Is there anything else I should do or was the process really that simple?

Thanks.

Yep. It's pretty much that simple. Kind of hard to believe for me actually. And, I think I know what you mean by "no feedback" because I sort of still yearn for the days when command prompt was still in heavy rotation (at least in college) when you'd type a command (some switch) and the system would always provide some decent feedback like, "command executed successfully." https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3161102

Sorry for nothing more technical. Best of luck.

Thanks Zombiewoof - that's reassuring.  I had visited the link you gave but found it a bit ambiguous and unclear how the update worked.

    Hi,

We have really intended to make it simple for users on the removal process of Windows Journal so you should be all good there. We would also suggest downloading Microsoft Security Essentials to keep your PC secured.

Should you have other inquiries, please feel free to respond or post.

    Regards,

    Hi Carmine,

Thanks for your comment.  Yes everything was simple in removing Windows Journal, so simple and quick in fact that I wasn't sure it was done until I searched for it and could no longer find it.  A little feedback during the removal process would have been appreciated.

Thanks too for your suggestion about Microsoft Security Essentials.  However my present security arrangements appear to be working well so I am inclined to leave things as they are.

    Hi,

How is your system doing? If you are not getting any problems then everything should be good now :)

    regards,
