After updating it would appear I have no audio devices installed and I have an update

2025-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5050009)

That isn't updating on restart or shutdown and start, it reappears after each start.

Not been able to find an answer hence would appreciate assistance.

    Thanks for the reply.

By the your Laptop manufacturer's website, I mean brands like HP, Lenovo, or Dell, where you can download and install your audio drivers. For example http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Well, you can also run a Win 11 in-place-upgrade --- An in-place upgrade updates your device to the latest version while keeping all your files intact. It's often used to fix corrupted system files, apps, and missing or incompatible drivers without deleting anything.

You can follow the steps in the link below, which also includes a detailed video guide.

Many thanks for replies, perhaps if I clarify a little further...

It took 3 attempts to update to 24H2, first attempt I gave up after 36 hours, second attempt advised pc wasn't compatible so installed via a USB & media creation tool.

There are no backups to restore.

Install went smoothly with the exception that there is no audio and an update doesn't install on restart or shutdown.

There are no Audio input or output devices shown in settings, and no audio in control panel so no options to delete or update drivers.

To add to my issues there is no support from the manufacturer or the seller who has now left the platform, Amazon.

In the circumstances I think trying to resolve this is mission impossible.

    Thanks for the reply.

I see, you'll need to manually install the latest driver from your laptop/motherboard manufacturer’s website.

But since the issues started right after the update, you can try system restore to roll back the update. To apply a restore point from Windows:

To open System Restore, you can use one of the following methods:

From the Control Panel, select Recovery > Open System Restore.

Use the keyboard shortcut +R, type rstrui.exe and press Enter

In the Restore system files and settings box, select Next

Select the restore point that you want to use in the list of results. If you don’t see the restore point that you want to use, select the Show more restore points check box to see more restore points

Once you find the restore point before the update, select Next > Finish

After the restore point is applied, Windows restarts automatically.

    Hi Femi,

Thanks for your quick response, in answer to the issues...

There are no audio devices detected so no drivers to delete.

No error codes are shown in respect of the update at any stage.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

    Hi TonyF3

Thanks for reaching out! My name is Femi. I'm an Independent advisor and a Microsoft fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I see you're experiencing missing audio devices and a Windows update that won’t install.

Are you seeing any specific error codes or messages when the update fails to install?

Does Windows Troubleshooter detect any issues with audio or updates?

Reinstall Audio Drivers for the audio problem using these steps:

Press Win + X and select Device Manager.

Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.

Right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device (check "Delete the driver software for this device" if available).

Restart your PC and let Windows reinstall.

    Windows Update Troubleshooter:

Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update and run it.

Let me know what happens with these steps!
