Hi Microsoft!!

We are currently using Azure IoT edge on ubuntu 16.04, now are planning to upgrade the OS and Azure IOT edge version( to 1.1 or 1.2). Our entire solution is running on production environment. We have 2 options for the OS, Ubuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 20.04 which supports IOT-Edge 1.1+.
Since, Ubuntu 20.04 is latest LTS version of Ubuntu we are planning to upgrade to that, but as this document Ubuntu 20.04 is under Tier 2 support.

My question is, will it be fine and reliable to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 for Azure Iot Edge? or Ubuntu 18.04 will be a better option? and why?

Thank You

    Hello @Vivek Sagar Pandey ,

Personally, I have been (and currently I am) involved in projects where Azure IoT Edge is rolled out.

All production projects are done on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS together with IoT Edge Runtime 1.1.X (the LTS version).

We are already checking out the 1.2 version because, in the end, this will become the LTS someday. Especially the new Nested Edge feature has our attention.

We are also testing on Ubuntu 20.04LTS and are optimistic about the stability.

As @António Sérgio Azevedo also mentioned, Tier 1 and LTS versions are important to us.

The good news is that during the Azure IoT Edge Summit - Technical Track the same question was answered:
