    Hello Wayne Gibbs,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

May I know if the AI assistant suggestion helps you? Please let me know the results.

Before we proceed further, may I know what you means by lost access to your disk drive? Does it stop appearing or it is locked and you cannot recover it?

    I'm waiting for your reply.

Try this recovery path in order:

    1. Open Disk Management
      • Press Win + R, type diskmgmt.msc, and press Enter.
      • Check whether the LG external drive appears there.
      • If the drive is visible but has no drive letter, right-click the main partition and assign a drive letter.
      • If it appears offline or unallocated, do not format it yet if files need to be recovered.
    2. Check basic drive availability
      • Make sure the external drive has power.
      • Reconnect the USB cable securely.
      • If applicable, try another USB port.
      • If the drive is accessed over a network path, confirm the network connection is active.
    3. If files were deleted or the drive became inaccessible after data loss, use Windows File Recovery
      • Windows File Recovery is a command-line app available from the Microsoft Store.
      • It can try to recover lost files from local storage devices, including external drives and USB devices.
      • It does not support recovery from cloud storage or network file shares.
      • Important: minimize use of the computer and the affected drive to reduce the chance of overwriting recoverable data.
    4. If the drive was used with OneDrive
      • OneDrive may not sync correctly to an SD card or external USB drive unless the drive meets OneDrive system requirements.
      • Reformatting may be required in that scenario, but this can cause data loss, so only consider that after recovery attempts are complete.
    5. If the drive is corrupted and encrypted with BitLocker/MBAM
      • A recovery path exists using repair-bde with a recovery key package and recovery password.
      • This requires an elevated Command Prompt and another fixed drive with enough free space to hold the recovered data.

If the drive is visible in Disk Management, the next best step is to identify whether it shows as a normal partition, missing a drive letter, offline, or unallocated, because the recovery action depends on that state.
