    Hello,

Sign in with your Microsoft account on the Services & Subscriptions page to check which Microsoft 365 subscription you have:

    https://account.microsoft.com/services

If you have the Microsoft 365 Basic plan, it only includes 100 GB of cloud storage and ad-free Outlook email. However, it does not include desktop applications such as Word or Excel.

To use the desktop applications, you will need a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, , or a one-time-purchase license such as Office Home or Office Home & Business.

Please note that Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions generally cost more than the amount you mentioned. Therefore, the charge may be for a different subscription or service.

First, check the Services & Subscriptions page to identify the subscription associated with your account. If no matching subscription appears, review your Microsoft account order history or use Microsoft's billing charge investigation tool to identify the charge.

The monthly charge and the app access problem are likely separate issues.

    • A recurring charge can be from a Microsoft subscription or another Microsoft purchase tied to a Microsoft account.
    • If Word and Excel show subscription or activation notices, that usually happens when there is a payment problem, the subscription is expired or suspended, or the apps have gone into reduced functionality mode.
    • In reduced functionality mode, documents can still be opened and printed, but editing and creating new documents are blocked.

Use this path to identify the charge and restore access:

    1. Check the subscription on the Microsoft account dashboard at Services & subscriptions: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      • Look for any Microsoft 365 subscription showing expired, suspended, or payment issue status.
      • Also confirm the correct Microsoft account is being used. A charge may be tied to a different Microsoft account.
    2. Investigate the recurring charge on Manage your payments.
      • If the charge is not recognized, use the Microsoft account billing investigation flow from the billing support article.
    3. If the apps show “ACCOUNT NOTICE. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription and need your help to fix it.”
      • This is often caused by a declined payment, such as an expired or canceled card.
      • Fixing the payment method or renewing the subscription is the supported path.
    4. If Microsoft 365 has expired or is not activated:
      • Sign in to Microsoft 365 again after confirming the subscription is active.
      • If the device has been offline too long, reconnect to the internet and sign in to reactivate the apps.
    5. To speak with support:
      • Go to Contact Microsoft Support
      • Enter the problem and select Get Help
      • Then select Contact Support
      • Sign in if prompted and choose the billing/subscription option to reach the best support route

Important details based on the symptoms:

    • If the apps say Unlicensed Product or show a subscription notice, the inability to edit or create files is expected until the subscription or activation issue is fixed.
    • If the charge continues after cancellation, one documented reason is canceling too close to the billing date. Another is that the charge belongs to a different Microsoft account.
    • If there is concern that payment information was compromised, contact the bank or payment provider immediately to prevent more charges.
