In most cases like this Microsoft is bouncing the email from your sender because it did not pass the new Microsoft Impersonation Requirements.

All I can suggest is that you contact the sender and ask them if they are getting a Non-Delivery Report from Microsoft and if so, what is the reason for the bounce.

If other email is arriving normally, the most relevant checks are the mailbox filtering and whether the sender is being blocked before delivery.

  1. Check the Junk Email folder in Outlook and BT Mail.
    • Verification and security-style messages can be filtered there even when normal mail is delivered.
    • Microsoft notes that valid verification emails come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
  2. Add @accountprotection.microsoft.com as a trusted sender.
    • This helps route future verification messages to the inbox instead of junk.
  3. Confirm the message is being sent to the exact mailbox expected.
    • For Microsoft verification messages, codes are only sent to the primary alias or another email already added as a sign-in verification method.
    • If the visible hint for the address does not match, review the account security info and select Update info.
  4. Avoid repeated resend attempts.
    • Excessive or repetitive requests can trigger a temporary block where codes are not sent.
  5. Check whether the account may be temporarily blocked due to unusual activity.
    • Microsoft can temporarily stop sending codes when sign-in or verification activity appears risky.
    • In some cases, delivery delays also happen because of heavy compromised traffic in a region and resolve automatically after some time.
  6. If the code is going to another Microsoft mailbox used as the alternate email, use private browsing for both accounts.
    • Sign in to the first account in an InPrivate/private window.
    • Keep that window open when prompted for the code.
    • Open a second private window and sign in to the alternate Outlook/Hotmail/Live/MSN mailbox to retrieve the code.
    • This avoids one Microsoft account sign-in from signing out the other.
  7. If no code arrives after these checks, use another verification method if one is available, or the sign-in helper/support path.
    • Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details on behalf of the account owner.
