Cannot redeem U.S. Microsoft 365 Personal key after moving from Pakistan to the United States

I previously used Microsoft 365 in Pakistan. I have now moved to the United States and purchased a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription/product key from Best Buy in the U.S.

Microsoft recognizes the key as Microsoft 365 Personal and shows the country/region as United States, but when I click Redeem, activation fails with the error “ConversionBlockedCurrencyCountryMismatch.”

My Microsoft account still appears to be associated with my previous Pakistan Microsoft 365 subscription. How can I change/transfer my Microsoft 365 account region to the United States and redeem my new U.S. product key without losing the data stored in my Microsoft account/OneDrive?

    Hello javeria khan,

The error occurs because the existing Microsoft 365 subscription was set up in Pakistan, while the new product key is for the United States. Changing the profile country alone may not remove the region attached to an active subscription.

    Please try the following:

    1. Sign in to your Microsoft account profile, select Edit profile info, and change Country or region to United States.
    2. Check Services & subscriptions. If the Pakistan subscription is still active, turn off recurring billing and allow it to expire. A product key from another region may not be accepted until at least one day after the old subscription expires.
    3. After expiry, sign in with the same Microsoft account at https://microsoft365.com/setupand redeem the U.S. key. Using the same account keeps your existing OneDrive files connected to it.
    4. If the error continues, contact Microsoft Support and provide the error code, purchase receipt, and product key details. This may require an account-side region review that cannot be completed through this user-to-user forum.

Here's how to reach out to the Microsoft Support Team (live chat):

    1.  Go to: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
    2. In the search box, enter a short description of your issue, then choose "Get Help"
    3. Scroll down and select Sign in to contact support (please sign in using a personal Microsoft account). Then follow the on-screen prompts to reach Support Team.

    Tips:

    • Support chat availability may vary by country/region, product, and support hours. If you can't get in touch with a chat agent right away, trying again later or at a different time may help.
    • If the support page directs you to the automated assistant, type “I need a live agent” in the chat.

Hopefully your issue will be sorted out soon Thank you so much for your patience!
