Hello,

I am helping the legitimate owner of email, recover his Microsoft account.

He has been using this Hotmail address continuously for approximately 20 years, for both his business and personal communication. This is his primary email account and losing access is causing serious disruption to his business and daily life.

The last emails successfully received on his phone are dated September 2, 2026. There are also Microsoft system/security emails from around that date suggesting that something happened to the account.

We believe an unauthorized person may have changed the password and/or security/recovery information.

We already tried the Microsoft Account Recovery Form, but the recovery request was rejected because the answers did not match. We are concerned that some of the security information may have been changed after the account was compromised.

The important point is that we have substantial historical evidence proving that he is the legitimate owner:

  • The account is still configured on his long-term mobile phone.
  • Emails downloaded before September 2 are still available on the device.
  • We have many years of historical emails and contacts.
  • We can provide previous account information and historical usage details.
  • We can identify long-term correspondents and previous email subjects.
  • We can provide information about devices and locations historically used with the account.
  • We are prepared to provide identity documentation or any additional evidence through an official and secure Microsoft channel.

He is an older user and has used the same email account for around 20 years. He is not technically experienced enough to manage this situation himself, so I am assisting him with the recovery process.

The standard recovery process has already failed, so we urgently need guidance on how this case can be escalated to Microsoft Account Security or a support agent who can review the historical evidence.

We are not asking for the account to be restored without verification. We simply need an opportunity to prove ownership using the extensive historical evidence available.

Could a Microsoft representative please advise us on the correct private support/escalation channel for a compromised account when the automated recovery form is unsuccessful?

This is extremely urgent because the account has been used for both business and personal communication for approximately 20 years.

Thank you for your assistance.

    Hello, I’m Virginia.

I believe only business accounts would have access to a higher-tier support/manual review of the recovery information.

    Try recovering your account here:

    Hacked:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/how-to-recover-a-hacked-or-compromised-microsoft-account-24ca907d-bcdf-a44b-4656-47f0cd89c245

    Or:

    Can’t sign in:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/you-can-t-sign-in-to-your-microsoft-account-475c9b5c-8c25-49f1-9c2d-c64b7072e735

You can try also https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact & type Account Recovery in the box, then choose the Contact Support tab above & select Windows, then recovery from the drop down menus.

If none of the above work then you’ll require the account recovery form:

    https://account.live.com/acsr

Please note if you have 2/multi factor authentication active on your account then you cannot use the form to recover the account.

If you’re successful in changing the details then you may find that the account is limited for 30 days, this is a security feature & cannot be circumvented.

Please be aware that if the email address has been changed to that of the hacker &/or 2fa/mfa has been enabled then usually there’s nothing which can be done.

For a personal Microsoft account, there is no private escalation path that allows a support agent to manually restore access, send a password reset link, or change account details after a compromise. Microsoft’s documented policy is that support agents and advocates are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.

    The supported path is:

    1. If the account was hacked, start with the sign-in helper tool. It can guide to self-help steps or offer the chance to talk to an agent: Start
    2. If two-step verification was not turned on and the recovery form failed, use the Sign-in Helper first.
    3. Submit the Account recovery form again with as much exact historical detail as possible.
      • Use a working contact email that can receive Microsoft’s response.
      • Complete the form from a device previously used to sign in and from a familiar location such as home or office.
      • Include as many old passwords as possible.
      • For Outlook.com/Hotmail.com, exact email subject lines and contact details help.
      • If the account was used with Skype or Xbox, include those account details as applicable.
    4. After submission, Microsoft sends the result to the working email within 24 hours. If the account is not verified, the form can be retried up to two times per day.

If the account still has any active sign-in on a trusted device, check recent activity and then change the password and security settings immediately:

If malware may have been involved, run a full antivirus scan before changing the password. In Windows Security: Virus and threat protection > Scan options > Full scan > Scan now.

If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, Microsoft states that support cannot help recover the account.

For general support contact options, Microsoft provides:

Those channels can provide guidance, but they do not override the account security policy above.
