    Hi Steve,

To proceed with further checking, can you please help share a screenshot of the full error message you encountered?

In the meantime, please also try to perform an online repair and see if it will help resolve the issue. For information on how to do the online repair, you can refer to this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application

    Try these in order:

    1. Repair Office from Windows settings
      • On Windows 11: right-click Start > Installed apps.
      • On Windows 10: right-click Start > Apps and Features.
      • Select Microsoft 365 or Office > Modify.
      • Choose Online Repair > Repair.
      • If only Quick Repair is available first, run it, but Online Repair is the more complete fix because it replaces corrupted files.
      • Restart the PC when the repair finishes.
    2. If Office says it is busy or still will not open
      • Wait a few minutes and try again.
      • Restart the computer and test Word or PowerPoint again.
    3. If a specific PowerPoint file says it is blocked
      • Open File Explorer.
      • Find the file.
      • Right-click it > Properties.
      • If there is an Unblock button or checkbox, select Unblock > Apply > OK.
      • Then right-click the file and choose Open.
    4. If a file may be corrupted
      • In Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, go to File > Open > Browse.
      • Select the file once.
      • Select the arrow next to Open.
      • Choose Open and Repair.
    5. If double-clicking files does nothing or opens the wrong app
      • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Select the Office product.
      • Choose Change.
      • Run Quick Repair to fix file association problems.
    6. If repair from the app popup does nothing
      • Use the Windows Modify path above instead of the in-app Repair now prompt. The in-app repair can be less effective than a full Online Repair.

If Office still does not open after Online Repair and restart, use the Microsoft uninstall troubleshooter to completely remove Office, then reinstall it. This is more disruptive because Office will be removed before reinstalling.
