I'm having problems with Windows 11. Sometimes it won't install my programs, sometimes updates don't work, and now my laptop, which has Windows 11 installed, was showing my account until half an hour ago and suddenly kicked me out and won't accept it at all. Can someone help me update my Windows online to a version after or before to fix it?

Windows 11, version 25H2 is already the latest released version for eligible devices, so the practical next step is not rolling back online, but repairing update and system components, then using Microsoft installation media if needed.

Try this in order:

  1. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
    • Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
    • Find Windows Update and select Run.
    • Complete the prompts.
  2. Check for updates again
    • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
    • If the device is ready, Windows should offer the latest available update.
  3. Make sure there is enough free disk space
    • Windows needs at least 16 GB free for a 32-bit OS or 20 GB free for a 64-bit OS to upgrade.
    • Low storage can block updates or cause them to stall.
  4. Restart and disconnect nonessential hardware
    • Restart the PC.
    • Unplug nonessential devices such as USB drives, printers, scanners, speakers, and external drives before trying the update again.
  5. Temporarily remove third-party antivirus or security software
    • Third-party security software can block Windows upgrades.
    • Warning: only do this if the reinstall method and required product information are available.
    • After uninstalling, retry Windows Update.
  6. Repair Windows system files
    • Open Command Prompt as administrator.
    • Run:
           DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    • Wait for the success message.
    • Then run:
           sfc /scannow

    • Wait until verification reaches 100%, then try Windows Update again.
  7. If updates still fail, reset Windows Update components
    • Microsoft marks this as an advanced step and it requires administrator permissions.
    • Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these one at a time:
           net stop bits
           net stop wuauserv
           ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak
           ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
           net start bits
           net start wuauserv

    • Restart the PC and check for updates again.
  8. If the system is still unstable, do an in-place repair or clean installation using Microsoft media
    • The Windows 11 Media Creation Tool is available from the Windows 11 download page.
    • Bootable media and ISO download are also available from the same page.
    • Warning: a clean installation can remove apps and data, so back up personal files first.

Because the laptop is now rejecting the account sign-in, back up files first if access is still possible from another account or recovery path. Microsoft also recommends backing up personal files before troubleshooting update problems.

If the issue is specifically a failed May 2026 security update with 0x800f0922, that known 25H2 issue was resolved by updates released May 26, 2026 (KB5089573) and later, so installing the latest update is the recommended fix.
