How to contact Microsoft/Xbox directly regarding a consumer rights issue?

Hello.

Earlier this month, my original account was compromised. A third party accessed my Microsoft account and changed both the email and password, locking me out completely. I contacted Microsoft who despite being given as much accurate information regarding my account as possible, refused to restore access and instead suspended my account. This resulted in me losing access to my Xbox account which contains over 40 games which I've bought. If Microsoft refuses to restore access to my account, I would at least like a refund or compensation for my lost games.

I am based in Ireland and the CCPC - Competiton and Consumer Protection Commission - has an outline for resolving a consumer rights issue:

  1. Contact the business directly
  2. Make a formal complaint
  3. Use the small claims procedure

But as many know, Microsoft make speaking to a human next to impossible and there's no email readily available. I would like to take all the appropriate steps before having to resort to small claims court. If anyone knows how to help with this issue, I would deeply appreciate it.

    Hi, Jenny Cunningham

I’m sorry this happened. The usual Xbox game refund form requires access to the account that bought the games, and refunds for older purchases aren’t guaranteed.

If Microsoft’s reply says the account was suspended, follow the reinstatement link shown when you try to sign in. If the issue is that the attacker changed your sign-in details, use the account Sign-in Helper instead; it may offer a way to speak with an agent.

For the consumer-rights issue, contact Xbox through Microsoft’s Ireland support page and ask for a case number and a written response. Then send a formal written complaint with your gamertag, purchase receipts, previous case numbers, and the outcome you’re requesting. Microsoft lists Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Dublin D18 P521, Ireland as the Microsoft Store seller of record. Check your receipts for the seller before addressing the letter. If it remains unresolved, the CCPC explains the Irish small claims route for eligible claims up to €2,000.
