I try to get a code to reset my pin for the PC login, I try to use my account email and login to get the code but it ask me for the phone number attached to the account. I enter in the phone number information and I still don't receive the code from the phone number. I just want clarity on what to do?

    Hi R O,

Thanks for sharing those details. To narrow this down, could you confirm whether you’re using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account? Also, are you resetting the PIN from the Windows sign-in screen or from Settings, and do you see an exact error message when requesting the code?

In the meantime, select Sign-in options on the sign-in screen and check whether you can sign in with your Microsoft account password instead. Please also make sure the PC is connected to the internet. If possible, try a different connection, such as Ethernet or a mobile hotspot.

If you can sign in with your password, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello) and try resetting the PIN there. If the text code still does not arrive, check whether Try another way is available so you can use an alternate email or Authenticator method already linked to the account. It may also help to contact your mobile carrier and ask whether automated or short-code verification messages are being blocked.

Please let me know what happens when you try the password sign-in and whether another verification option appears.

If the PIN reset is asking for a verification code and the phone code is not arriving, follow this path:

    1. Check whether the phone can receive texts from unknown numbers.
      • If it blocks unknown senders, change that setting.
      • Then choose I don't have a code to request another code.
    2. Check for common SMS delivery problems.
      • Make sure the phone inbox is not full.
      • If a messaging app is being used, make sure it is working correctly.
      • If the number is a VOIP or landline number, it cannot be used to receive Microsoft verification codes. A mobile phone number is required.
    3. Avoid repeated code requests.
      • Too many repeated requests can trigger a temporary block and prevent codes from being sent.
      • If that happened, wait and try again later.
    4. Verify the security info on the Microsoft account if sign-in is still possible elsewhere.
      • Go to the Microsoft account Security page and select Manage how I sign in or Update info.
      • Confirm the phone number or email listed is correct.
      • If another sign-in method is available, add a new way to sign in or verify.
    5. If access exists to some security info but not all:
      • Sign in to Advanced security options.
      • Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
      • Confirm the new method with the code sent to it.
      • Remove the old phone method after the new one is working.
      • Do not change all security info at the same time, because the account can be restricted for 30 days.
    6. If there is no access to any verification method:
      • At the Verify your identity prompt, select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to replace security info.
      • After replacing all security info, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
    7. If the password is also not known:
      • Use the account recovery form.
    8. If the issue is only that verification codes are not arriving:
      • Use the Sign-in Helper tool.
      • Microsoft support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details for security reasons.
