    Hi,

What changes did you make to your computer or subscription before the issue started?

Instead of Quick Repair, I suggest trying an Online Repair to thoroughly repair any issues with the Office installation:

In the search bar, type Control Panel > Programs and Features > find Microsoft 365/Office > right-click it > select Change > then run Online Repair.

If the issue persists, you can use the Office Uninstall Support Tool (Uninstall Troubleshooter) to completely remove Microsoft Office from your device and then reinstall it:

    https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC

Once you open the link, click Get Help. When the tool launches, select Yes, then click Next. Choose the option to uninstall Microsoft 365 and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

    To reinstall Office:

    Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services

Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Office license.

Locate Microsoft Office and click Install.

Run the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once installed, open an Office app such as Word or Excel and sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your purchase to activate Office.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Start Excel in Safe Mode.
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Type excel /safe and press Enter.
      • If Excel opens, the title bar should show Microsoft Excel (Safe Mode).
    2. If Excel opens in Safe Mode, turn off add-ins.
      • In Excel, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
      • In the Manage list, choose COM Add-ins and select Go.
      • Clear one add-in, then select OK.
      • Restart Excel normally.
      • If Excel still does not open, repeat and disable the next add-in.
      • If needed, repeat the same process with Excel Add-Ins.
    3. If Excel does not open in Safe Mode, repair Office.
      • Open Settings > Apps.
      • Find Office.
      • Select it, then choose Modify.
      • Select Online Repair, then Repair.
    4. If the problem happens when double-clicking an Excel file, run a Quick Repair.
      • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Select the Office product.
      • Choose Change.
      • Select Quick Repair and then Repair.
    5. If Excel files still open the wrong way, set the file association.
      • Open Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs.
      • Under Set a default for a file type or link type, choose the Excel file type and set Excel as the default app.
    6. If there are multiple Office versions installed, uninstall the versions not needed.
      • Too many Office versions on one PC can cause files to open in the wrong version.
      • Restart the PC after uninstalling.
    7. Workaround:
      • Open Excel first.
      • Then go to File > Open and open the workbook from inside Excel.
