That message is usually triggered by a Microsoft 365 subscription payment problem, such as a declined, expired, or cancelled payment method. If payment was already made on 9/14/2026, the most likely next step is to confirm that the subscription now shows as active and that the payment method on file does not still show an error.
- Close all Office apps.
- Go to your Services & subscriptions page.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Under Microsoft 365, check whether the subscription shows as active.
- If it shows expired, suspended, or unpaid, renew or resolve the subscription status there.
- Go to your Payment options page.
- Check whether the payment method shows an error.
- Restart Word and try printing again.
If the warning is ignored, Office can eventually go into reduced functionality mode: documents can still be opened and printed, but editing and creating new documents will be blocked.
If the subscription is active and the payment method is current but the message still appears, contact Microsoft Support through Contact Microsoft Support.
