    Hi jane,

Please try the steps in the AI Answer first and let me know how the installation goes. If Minecraft is still stuck on “Preparing to download,” could you also press Windows key + R, type winver and share the Windows 11 version and OS build shown? Please don’t include any account details or other personal information.

It would also help to know whether other free Store apps download normally, whether an error code eventually appears and whether you’re using a VPN, proxy or work/school-managed PC.

If the issue continues, open Settings > System > System components > Microsoft Store > Advanced options and select Repair. If that doesn’t help, select Reset, reopen Microsoft Store, sign in again and retry the installation. You can also temporarily disconnect any VPN and test the download using another connection, such as a mobile hotspot.

Let me know what happens after these checks. This should help narrow down whether the issue is specific to Minecraft, the Store, the Windows build or the network.

Try these steps in order for a Microsoft Store app that is stuck on Preparing to download in Windows 11:

    1. Close and reopen Microsoft Store
      • Select the X in the upper-right corner to fully close Microsoft Store.
      • Open Microsoft Store again and try the Minecraft free trial install.
    2. Check for Windows updates
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • If an update is available, select Install now.
      • Restart the PC after updates finish.
    3. Update Microsoft Store
      • Open Microsoft Store.
      • Select Library > Get updates.
      • If Microsoft Store has an update, let it install completely.
    4. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
      • Press Windows key + R.
      • Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
      • A blank Command Prompt window will appear for about 10 seconds, then Microsoft Store should open automatically.
      • Search for Minecraft again and retry the install.
    5. Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter
      • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
      • Select Windows Store apps > Run the troubleshooter.
    6. Reinstall from Library if needed
      • In Microsoft Store, select Library.
      • Find the app and select Install.
    7. Check common causes if it still will not install
      • The app may not be available in the current country or region.
      • Family settings may be hiding or blocking the app.
      • The app may no longer be available in Microsoft Store.
      • The device may be incompatible with the app.
      • The PC may need a restart after recent updates.
      • The PC may need to be signed in and authorized with the correct Microsoft account.

If the issue continues after these steps, use Contact Support in Microsoft support.
