I need to speak to an agent — problem accessing Microsoft 365 Family account

I am a Microsoft 365 Family subscriber since 2021. My wife Diann is a member of that family and has been using Microsoft Word all this time. A few days ago she opened Microsoft Word and a blank document appeared, but she wasn't able to type on it. She hits the keys but nothing happens. She can open old Word docs but can't edit them. She's a writer and this is causing immense problems. She is unable to do her work.

I wondered if she needed to update Microsoft Office so I initiated an update. The "update in progress" stalls out almost immediately. When I check the individual Microsoft products virtually all of them say "Update error." If I click on that it says: "The update could not be installed at this time. Please try again later." I've tried several times and always get the same response. I've gone on Q&A, etc., BUT I NEED TO SPEAK TO A HUMAN BEING AT MICROSOFT. Please respond asap.

Use Microsoft Support’s contact flow to reach a live support option:

    1. Open Contact Microsoft customer support.
    2. Select Get Help.
    3. Enter the problem, such as Microsoft 365 Family account access or Word can’t edit documents.
    4. If self-help does not resolve it, select Contact Support.
    5. Under Products and services, choose Microsoft 365 and Office.
    6. Under Category, choose Manage account Subscription.
    7. Continue to Confirm.
    8. Choose Chat with a support agent on your web browser or provide a phone number for a callback if that option is offered.

If chat is unavailable, try again during support hours noted in the Microsoft Q&A guidance: Monday to Friday: 9am to 6pm; Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For the Word behavior itself, the symptoms match reduced functionality mode: documents can be opened and printed, but not edited or created. That can happen when Microsoft 365 shows an Account Notice, becomes expired or suspended because of a payment problem, or when the apps show Unlicensed Product. If that notice appears in Word, check the subscription status and payment status on the Microsoft account used for the Family subscription.

If sign-in is part of the problem, use the Start sign-in helper. Microsoft support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or change account details directly.

As a temporary workaround, Office on the web is available at Office.com.
