ChatGPT may have added Content Controls, like Google Docs does. A screen shot will let us confirm.

Always use File>Save As and make a copy of your file before experimenting.

As John suggested, a screen shot will be helpful.

You can make a copy of your document and then save that document in the older .doc format. This will preserve the content but remove any content controls.

The downside to saving in .doc format is that you may lose other functionality which was introduced by the .docx format, which is why it is important that you preserve a copy of the original .docx document.

I did a little research, and it appears that under some circumstances, ChatGPT uses Google Docs to modify Word files. This is a known cause of Content Controls being automatically added.

To avoid this in the future, consider installing the ChatGPT for Office add-in. Then ChatGPT will edit using Word's built-in capabilities instead of using Google Docs.
