The 'Repair Now' button on that error popup dialog only performs a quick repair of the Office apps and that rarely resolves the problem with the Office apps, the best option is to perform a full online repair of your Office installation.

Before performing this process, please log into your Microsoft account on this link (https://account.microsoft.com/services/) and check to ensure your Office licence or Microsoft 365 subscription is listed correctly on your account.

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Apps - Installed Apps, then scroll down to find Microsoft Office

Select that and choose Modify - Online Repair

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation.

    Try this in order:

    1. Update Office
      • Open any Office app if possible.
      • Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
      • If Update Now is missing, select Enable Updates first.
    2. Start Word in Safe Mode to check add-ins
      • Open Run.
      • Type winword /safe and press Enter.
      • If Word opens in Safe Mode, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
      • In Manage, select the add-in type, then choose Go.
      • Clear one add-in at a time, select OK, and restart Word normally after each change.
      • Older add-ins such as ABBYY FineReader and Dragon Naturally Speaking are known to cause problems.
    3. Run a full Office repair
      • The repair prompt inside Word may not be enough.
      • In Windows 11: Start > Installed apps.
      • In Windows 10: right-click Start > Apps and Features.
      • Select Microsoft 365 or Office > Modify.
      • If available, choose Online Repair > Repair. This is more thorough than Quick Repair.
      • Follow the on-screen steps, then restart the PC.
    4. Install Windows updates
      • In Windows 11: Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
      • In Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
      • Install any available updates.
    5. If Word still will not open
      • If Word does not open even in Safe Mode, the issue is likely not an add-in.
      • In that case, continue with Online Repair if not already done.
    6. Word-only advanced step
      • Warning: editing the registry can cause serious problems if done incorrectly.
      • If the problem is only with Word, one documented troubleshooting step is to back up and delete the Word Data registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word\Data
      • Export the key first, then delete it, restart Word, and restore it if the issue is not fixed.
