Progressing to the $25,000 tier on Microsoft for Startups

Has anyone here successfully reached the $25,000 Microsoft for Startups Azure credit tier?

I’m trying to understand what actually counted as the required 5+ qualifying workloads and what you did to maintain them for the 60-day period. If you reached the $25k tier, I’d really appreciate hearing which Azure services you were using and whether there was anything specific you had to do for the milestone to trigger.

To reach the $25,000 tier, the documented requirement is to use 5 or more Azure workloads over a sustained period of about 60 days. The upgrade is automatic once the requirements are met; there is no separate application for that milestone.

    What counts as a workload:

    • A workload is an Azure service actively used in the solution.
    • Examples explicitly called out include:
      • Virtual Machines
      • AI and machine learning services
      • Databases
      • Application hosting services

What must happen for the 60-day period:

    1. The 60-day clock starts only after there are at least 5 qualifying workloads.
    2. Each workload must have at least $1 in spend.
    3. All 5 workloads must stay above $1 in spend for the full 60 continuous days.
    4. If any workload drops below that threshold, the total falls under the requirement and the count does not complete until there are again 60 continuous days at or above the target.

What typically qualifies based on the documented examples:

    • One compute service such as Virtual Machines
    • One AI/ML service
    • One database service
    • One application hosting service
    • One additional distinct Azure service actively used in the solution

The documentation also notes that workload examples can include services such as:

    • VMs
    • AI models
    • Databases
    • Other Azure offerings

A practical interpretation is that the milestone is based on distinct Azure services in active use, not on the number of instances of the same service. Progress is evaluated on recent activity and sustained usage patterns, not one-time spikes.

There is nothing extra to submit for the milestone trigger in the documented process. The account is automatically evaluated and upgraded when the requirements are met.

    Also required before higher progression:

    • Business verification is part of progression and is the explicit requirement for the $5,000 milestone.
    • For the $25,000 milestone, the documented requirement is the sustained use of 5+ Azure workloads over about 60 days.
