If Share or Start sharing does not appear, the most common cause is that the account is not the subscription holder of an active Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, or Pro subscription. Sharing is not available for Microsoft 365 Basic or Personal.
Try this:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 sharing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to set up the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
- Look for Share or Start sharing on the Sharing tab.
- If it appears, choose one of these options:
- Email invite: enter the person’s email address and select Invite.
- Create link / Copy link: copy the link and send it by email, text, or another message.
If the sharing option still does not appear, check these conditions:
- The subscription must be an active Microsoft 365 Family, Premium, or Pro subscription.
- There must be shares remaining. It can be shared with up to five other people.
- Only the subscription account holder can share it.
If the invited person is already in another family group, they must leave that family group first before the subscription can be shared with them.
Also note:
- The invitation must be accepted within 48 hours.
- Do not use a product key to share the subscription; sharing must be done by email invite or link.
- AI features and some extended storage benefits are only available to the subscription owner and are not shared.
