Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To move from Microsoft 365 Personal to Microsoft 365 Family, buy the Family subscription using the same Microsoft account as the current Personal subscription.
What happens to the Personal subscription you just renewed:
- The money is not refunded as a prorated cash refund.
- The remaining time on the Personal subscription is automatically converted and added to the new Family subscription.
- Because Family costs more than Personal, the added time is less than the full remaining time on the Personal plan.
- For Personal → Family, the conversion rate shown is 92% of the remaining time.
So if the Personal plan just renewed for a full year, that unused time is not lost. It is converted and added to the Family subscription on a prorated basis when the Family plan is purchased.
If the subscription was bought through a third-party billing partner such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, or certain retail partners, subscription changes may need to be handled through that partner, and switching options can vary.
