I have a family subscription and would like to share it with my sister without giving her access to my Word documents or other files. Is this possible?

Yes, that is correct, this is possible.

The full process to share a Microsoft 365 Family subscription is provided on the link below.

Basically you create a share link and send that to your sister.

She then installs the Microsoft 365 apps on her devices using her own Microsoft account.

She will then have her own version of the Office apps and also her own 1TB of OneDrive storage that is totally separate from your data.

Yes. A Microsoft 365 Family subscription can be shared with up to five other people, and each person’s personal data remains private.

Your sister will not get access to personal Word documents, files, emails, appointments, contacts, photos, or notebooks unless those items are explicitly shared. Personal files stay separate for each person.

    Important details:

    1. Only the subscription holder can share the subscription.
    2. Sharing is only available with eligible plans such as Microsoft 365 Family.
    3. The person accepting the invite becomes part of the subscription owner’s family group.
    4. If the invitee is already in another family group, they must leave that group first.

    To share it:

    1. Go to the Microsoft 365 sharing page: https://account.microsoft.com/services/office/sharing
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 Family subscription.
    3. Select Share or Start sharing.
    4. Choose Email invite or Create link.
    5. Send the invitation to your sister.
    6. She accepts the invitation and can then install Microsoft 365 under her own account.

If the goal is also to keep OneDrive files separate, each person should use their own Microsoft account after accepting the shared subscription. That gives each person separate personal storage.
