There is no free Word or Office for installation on a Windows computer.

The closest was Offfice 2010 starter which was not really free but was bundled with many computers.

You can use the Word online app for free. You would need to get a free OneDrive application to store documents.

You can get the free LibreOffice program which makes compatible files. It is a good, free, office suite. It is not the same, but it is good.

For free desktop software, take a look at open-source LibreOffice. It has good compatibility with Office file formats.

    Hi,

It is not possible to install the Word app with editing and saving capabilities for free without an Office 365 license or subscription.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/officeinstall/download-install-or-reinstall-microsoft-365-or-office-2024-on-a-pc-or-mac

If you already have a license or subscription for Office 2021/2024 or 365, you can install it by following the link below:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/download-office

    Or

If you do not have one, you can use the free Office web version and install it as a web app:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web

    https://word.cloud.microsoft/en-us/

    https://excel.cloud.microsoft/en-us/

    https://powerpoint.cloud.microsoft/en-us/

Click the 3 dots in your browser > More tools > Apps > Install this app

Please consider rating the question (accepting the answer or not) and visiting the Microsoft Q&A community if you have further questions.

    Thanks
