My incoming emails are going to Conversational History instead of inbox. How do I correct this?

    Hi Dawn Swanson,

The Conversation History folder is normally used for conversation records from communication apps and isn't typically where standard incoming email is delivered. Since your messages are being routed there automatically, it may help to verify whether the behavior is isolated to a specific Outlook client or affecting the mailbox itself.

As a quick check, sign in to Outlook on the web and send yourself a test email. If the message arrives in the Inbox online but not in your desktop app, the issue is likely related to the local Outlook profile or client configuration.

Could you also let us know:

    • Are you using Outlook.com, New Outlook, or Classic Outlook?
    • Do the messages appear in the Inbox briefly before moving to Conversation History?
    • Does this happen for all senders or only certain emails?

These details can help narrow down whether the behavior is mailbox-related or specific to the Outlook application you're using.

Feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

The most likely cause is a rule moving mail to the Conversation History folder.

    Try these checks:

    1. In Outlook, open Settings.
    2. Go to Mail > Rules.
    3. Review all rules and look for any rule that moves messages to Conversation History.
    4. Disable or delete that rule.
    5. Send a test message to confirm new mail now goes to Inbox.

    If the issue continues:

    1. Restart Outlook and the device.
    2. If Skype for Business is in use, check Options > Personal and verify conversation-saving settings are not affecting Outlook.

    Important distinction:

    • Conversation view only changes how related messages are displayed together.
    • It does not normally move incoming mail into the Conversation History folder.

If the folder itself is missing or appears in the wrong place, there is a separate Outlook repair process for recreating the Conversation History folder.
