To transition to your wife's Microsoft 365 Family plan, accept her email invitation using your current Microsoft account. Then cancel your individual subscription and request a refund for the remaining unused time, if you are eligible.

To accept the invitation, open the sharing email from your wife or go to your Microsoft Account Services page and select Accept to join the family group. Your existing Microsoft account, data, and 1 TB of OneDrive storage remain intact because you are continuing to use the same account.

To cancel your individual plan, go to Microsoft Services and Subscriptions, sign in, find your Microsoft 365 Individual subscription, and select Manage, followed by Cancel subscription.

During the cancellation process, check whether Microsoft offers a prorated refund for the unused portion of your individual subscription. Follow the prompts to request the refund if you are eligible. To move from Microsoft 365 Personal to a shared Microsoft 365 Family subscription, let the current Personal subscription run to its paid end date, then accept and use the Family sharing invitation with the same Microsoft account.

    Recommended path:

    1. On the current Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, turn off recurring billing so it expires at the end of the paid period.
    2. Keep using the Personal subscription until it expires.
    3. After it expires, open the Microsoft 365 Family invitation from the subscription owner and accept it using the same Microsoft account.
    4. Once accepted, install or sign in to Microsoft 365 under that same account to receive the Family benefits.

    Important details:

    • Microsoft 365 Family can be shared with up to five other people.
    • Each person can install Microsoft 365 on all their devices and be signed in to five devices at a time.
    • OneDrive files and cloud data remain associated with the same Microsoft account.
    • If changing from Personal to Family directly by adding a Family subscription to the same account, the remaining subscription time can be extended.

If the Family subscription owner needs to resend the share, the steps are:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft account Sharing page.
    2. On the Sharing tab, select Start sharing.
    3. Send the invite by email or by link.
