    Hi @Jonathan

    1. Use a dedicated FTP client

Instead of Windows File Explorer, use:

    WinSCP

    FileZilla

    These tools support:

    Resume interrupted transfers

    Automatic retries

Better handling of large files (135 GB+)

    1. Check destination disk

    Make sure:

The destination drive has at least 150 GB+ free space.

    The disk is healthy:

    BAT

    chkdsk G: /f

    Show more lines

    1. Verify the destination file system

If G: is formatted as FAT32, a single file cannot exceed 4 GB.

    Check:

    BAT

    fsutil fsinfo volumeinfo G:

    Show more lines

If the file system is FAT32, convert or reformat to NTFS:

    BAT

    convert G: /fs:ntfs

    Show more lines

    1. Configure FTP keep-alive

    If using FileZilla or WinSCP:

    Increase timeout values.

    Enable keep-alive messages.

    Enable transfer resume.

    1. Copy in a more reliable way

If the file already partially downloaded:

    Delete the incomplete VHDX.

Re-download using a dedicated FTP client with resume support.

    1. Check Event Viewer

    Look for:

    Windows Logs

    └─ System

    Thanks.

    Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for posting question on Microsoft Windows Forum!

Based on the error message from the provided screenshots. Well! The possible cause for the issue is the file (86dc0e38-...vhdx) is very large (135GB). Transferring a 135GB file via Windows File Explorer is highly prone to timing out because the process lacks a resume mechanism and is sensitive to brief network interruptions. On the other hand, File Explorer does not support picking up where it left off and is not designed for large, long-distance transfers.

You can try to use a dedicated FTP client like FileZilla which supports automatic reconnects, resume functionality, and adjustable timeout limits. In FileZilla, navigate to Edit > Settings > Connection and change the Timeout value from the default (20 seconds) to at least 300 seconds to prevent long transfers from timing out. Click OK to save. Then connect to the FTP server using the Site Manager and navigate to the .vhdx file, and drag it to your G:\dwnld folder. If the connection drops again, FileZilla will allow you to resume the transfer rather than starting over.

Another suggestion is to use a built-in command-line tool Robocopy that can copy files in "restartable mode" meaning it will automatically resume if the connection drops. Run the command robocopy "C:\path\to\source" "G:\dwld" "yourfile.vhdx" /Z /J /R:5 /W:10 for more information https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/robocopy

Hope the above information is helpful!
