When MS11 was installed, I just learned that backups have not been made on my Western Digital Passport for many months. How can I reset be back up process?

What backup process were you previously using, is that File History to keep previous versions of your files, or did you use the old Windows Backup and Restore (Windows 7) function in the old Control Panel to create a full system backup image, or did you use the Western Digital utility on the drive to perform the backups?

When you indicate you want to reset the backup process do you want to start a new set of backups on your PC using that drive.

If the Western Digital Passport was being used with File History, reset the backup connection like this:

    1. Connect the Western Digital Passport to the PC.
    2. Open Control Panel.
    3. Go to System and Security > File History.
    4. If the drive was disconnected, reconnect it there. If it was backing up to a network location, reselect the network location.
    5. After reconnecting, wait for the next scheduled backup, or start one immediately by selecting File History > Run now.

If the issue is with Windows Backup instead of File History, check the backup settings here:

    1. Open Settings > Accounts > Windows backup.
    2. Under OneDrive folder syncing, select Manage sync settings and choose the folders to back up.
    3. Turn on Remember my apps if needed.
    4. Under Remember my preferences, make sure the items to back up are checked.

If the Western Digital drive contains backups created by Backup and Restore, restoration is handled from Control Panel > Backup and Restore.
