I was working in a report in Word 16, when the laptop started blinking grey and white and then it shutdown. It did not indicate that it was completing an update. I could see through the blinking screen that it was asking me if I wanted to save my work, I was unable to save the word doc during this time. I Me and my husband tried to relocate, troubleshoot, recover, restore, but nothing worked, Now, I'm afraid that it cant be recovered. There is a update noted in the task view during the crash but I am at a loss for recovering the 50 page report. The task view also does not indicate that I worked on the report in the morning/afternoon of 10/23, which I did through out those times. And now, the Event log only goes back to the 24th.

How do I restore Event Logs that have been deleted?

Is there any shot at getting my report back before the crash?

The task view notes an update and the details of it look like the pic attached, what does this mean?

    Hi @NICHOLEBLAKE-9318,
    Welcome to Q&A forum!

Where did you save the file?
If it is saved locally, please try to search for temporary files(.tmp):

    1. Select Start, type .tmp (in Windows 8.1, type .asd in the Search box), and then press Enter.
    2. Select the Documents tab.
    3. Scroll through the files to search for file names that match the last few dates and times that you edited the document.
      • If you find the missing file, go to step 4.
      • If you don’t find the file, repeat steps 1 through 3, but search on the tilde character (~) instead of .tmp (temporary file names start with a tilde).
    4. Go to File > Open in Word, and then select the Folders tab.
5.Navigate to or search for the folder where you found the .tmp file, and then select the folder name to open the folder contents pane.
    5. At the top of the pane, select the name of the folder. This opens File Explorer.
    6. In File Explorer, change the file type (next to the file name field, near the bottom) to All files.
    7. Open the .tmp file.

Besides, you could also try the methods in the follwoing official KB to check this issue.
How to recover unsaved Word documents

If it is saved in OneDrive, please try to restore a previous version of a file in OneDrive.

Regarding the issue of Office crashing, I suggest you go to Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features to repair Office.

Besides, the main issues dealt with in the Q&A forum are non-urgent, if you need to troubleshoot the issue as soon as possible, it is recommended that you open a paid ticket with Microsoft support to help you test remotly and further analyze this issue.

Hope the information is helpful to you.
