Why does remote desktop screen slit in two?

the screen is split so that when moving open folders they slide behind an invisible wall. The task bar is also in the invisible wall and while it is seen it is frozen. see attached screen grabs - in one image you can see the open task manager with the "x" icon and in the next one it is not visible because it slid behind the invisible wall.
