I am trying to create an alert based on a log query but I would like to use dynamic threshold but the option is not available when I select the "custom log search" option

Hi, Dynamic threshold is available only for Metric Alerts and it is not available for Log Alerts. If you want to take advantage of Metric alerts and dynamic threshold you need to use the custom metrics integration in Azure Monitor which allows you to send metrics to the same store where Azure resources store their metrics. Hello,

I can not find a microsoft documentation or example on "How to create custom metrics using a custom log query".

In the documentation you have referred, it says that "Custom metrics can be sent to Azure Monitor via several methods: Instrument your application by using the Azure Application Insights SDK and send custom telemetry to Azure Monitor". It is great but .. how?

My usecase is very simple, I have an application insight in azure and a log query that create a timeseries. (for example "requests | where operation_Name contains "Offer" | summarize count by bin(timestamp, 1h)"). Now I want to convert that into a custom Azure metric in order to use the dynamic threshold on this custom azure metric.

How should I proceed to convert this simple log query into a custom metric?

@bobo-france , thank you for the query.
As I understand, you are using ApplicationInsights for monitoring the performance of your application (request table). To be able to send custom metrics to ApplicationInsights, please see this link Custom metrics in Azure Monitor (preview)

Also, note that once the data has been ingested into logs (as in your case), it cannot be sent to Azure Metrics. You need to send the telemetry to Azure Metric from the source as mentioned by Stan in his answer above. You may also check this section to get more details - Custom Metrics: Design limitations and considerations
