Unable to connect to serverless SQL pool because of a network/firewall issue.

I am trying to follow a simple tutorial on how to setup and use Azure Synapse Analytics but right out of the gate I can't run a query against a file in the Data Lake due to the error above. I opened up the fire wall rules and added my IP address and checked the box to allow all Azure resources but still looking at the error.

Could you please check if the firewall on your network and local computer is allows outgoing communication on TCP ports 80, 443 and 1443 for Synapse Studio.

Please Verify that the workspace firewall is not blocking the user connection.

Telnet synapsename-ondemand.sql.azuresynapse.net 1443

Still having the issue. I opened the ports: 80, 443 & 1443 and restarted my laptop and it worked for a while. This morning I got the same error again even after re-starting my machine so I am not off to a good start.

Hi everyone! I had this same issue and I was able to figure it out on my own. Make sure that the IP address you are connecting to has your IP address whitelisted in the Networking settings of your Azure Synapse Workspace. Reference this guide: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/synapse-analytics/security/synapse-workspace-ip-firewall

As a suggestion, Microsoft should probably add this as a troubleshooting step in the guide for the error code, would have saved me and others a couple hours.
