About virtual machines after zone recovery

Suppose we have an availability zone with virtual machines in each zone. Assume that you have installed software on each virtual machine from the operating system.

If a zone failure occurs, will the installed software be recovered when the virtual machines are recovered after the zone is recovered? Or do I need to reinstall it?

The image is attached.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but please let me know.

Hi @00801855 ,

the VM should be running after zone recovery the same like before the zone failure.
Using the Availability Zone feature in Azure should keep the it service available that is running on the VMs if one Azure zone is not available for any reason.
After a zone recovery you don't need to install any software again. But you should verify the databases are consistent between both VMs again.

One important thing when using Availability Zones or Sets is to run the same os, software but also have the same data on the VMs.
OS and software is easy to keep consistent. Just install the same OS and software on both VMs.
For databases you need a db cluster on the VMs to make sure both VMs are accessing the same databases.
Also you have to make sure the clients are able to connect one or the other VM. For instance with using a load balancer.
This way the clients are able to connect to either of the VMs in different Availability Zones and getting the same result.
