No, you can only create meetings with it. You can use other tab types, such as the Wiki, for posting notes. Or use Outlook-based Calendar, where you can post "appointments" instead of meeting requests.

Can you just put notes in the calendar rather than a meeting. For example note when a person is on leave, but not create it as a meeting.
