Start menu broken after KB4524147

I'm running windows 10 home 1903.The latest cumulative update kills the start menu for me.

Clicking the start button opens up a window saying " Critical error start menu not working, sign out ..."  somthing like that .

I tried reinstalling all windows store apps via powershell, restarted search service, restarted explorer process and everything

Only thing that fixes it is uninstalling the update.

I don't think that is the best solution.Anybody else facing this ? Any other solution?

We are aware of this issue and estimate a resolution to be released in late October.

    Hi ParthaDip

I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor.

    Reinstall Start Menu

Windows Key+X > Click Powershell (Admin) > Copy the below and paste into Powershell > Enter > Reboot your computer

    Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    ---------------- If above doesn't work

Report this to Microsoft so that this issue can be fixed in future updates. Press Windows Key+F to invoke Feedback Hub to send the issue to Microsoft.

I would suggest that you uninstall the latest KB update and hide it so that it doesn't install it automatically and wait for new update to come which will be installed automatically.

Microsoft has provided a tool Show/Hide Updates tool to block the update

Download the tool from below link

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

When you run this troubleshooter, it will search for available updates and list them

Select the update which you want to hide. Click Next and follow on-screen directions

Do let me know if you have any more question or require further help.

My problem is slightly different.  After installing the update, my Start Menu and Action Center simply would not open.  I get no error messages.  Uninstalling the update did not fix that.

KB4524147 is problematic. I lost my Start Menu on Win 10 x64 Home Premium and initiated a standalone install. It says  KB4524147 is installed but my Start menu is missing-with msg "Critical error ..." and signing out and in again did not resolve. Next I attempted Start menu reinstall as shown on this webpage. No luck. I uninstalled the update. Waiting for new MS update fix.
