Problem installing November 2021 CU

I have Exchange 2016 in a 4 node DAG. I successfully ran Windows Update on one of the servers which installed the Exchange CU that was released for November 2021. (This is as I have done countless times before in the past.) All went well on that server.

When I proceeded to the second server, Windows Update successfully installed the Windows patches, but the Exchange CU installation failed. I didn't realize this until after restarting the server and finding all the Exchange services disabled. Windows Update reported "problems installing some updates":
Security Update For Exchange Server 2016 CU21 (KB5007409) - Error 0x80070643

Searching on that error yielded differing results for different patches, so I was reluctant to jump in based on solutions to different installations.

I then tried downloading the installation file for the patch and running that from an elevated command prompt. That failed with a message that it "..ended prematurely because of an error."

What do I need to do to get this patch installed so that I can get this server running again? I thought of trying to set the Exchange services back to Automatic and starting them, but I wasn't sure if that would cause a problem.

I assume there's nothing wrong with the patch itself since the first server patched fine.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

    Hi @Logan Burt ,

Oh you may mean the SU(security update), can you now start the services manually?

Or if you can't start them (maybe received some errors), please try uninstalling the Windows Update installed recently and see if you could make the services go right.

And after that, run the msi file in admin mode powershell.

    Best regards,
    Lou

Thank you very much. Based on your response, I went ahead and set the disabled services back to their original settings (automatic or manual start) and started them manually. I was then able to successfully install the November SU bu running it manually from an elevated command prompt.

Thank you again for your response.
