Dear Team,

By making use of CPU affinity and enabling 4 CPUs (total 8) , can we limit the licensing to only 4 cores?

This SQL server is running on a VM.

Could you please share your feedback?

Thanks

    Hi moboy-9601,

To license individual VMs using the Per Core model, customers must purchase a core license for each v-core (or virtual processor, virtual CPU, virtual thread) allocated to the VM, subject to a four core license minimum per VM.
Please refer to Page 9 to Page 12 of the SQL Server 2014 Licensing Guide for more details.
And if you have any question about the license issue, you can speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist as Olaf mentioned. For international customers, please use the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/worldwide to find contact information in your locations. For Volume Licensing Service Support, please use the https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/contact-us to contact information for your country.

    Best Regards,
    Amelia
