Hello all IT Experts,

I am very much concerned about the new CVE-2021-34484 Zero-day bug. is it really necessary for Microsoft Windows users to apply this free patch? I am working as an IT Officer in a private company with 100+ users. How vulnerable would be the users' PC's at my company without using this free patch?

Any professional advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

You don't have to use any third-party tools and you may just update your Windows and apply the patch using the Windows Update service. The update is available from the Microsoft, take a look at:

    Hi @Syed Habib

The bug (CVE-2021-34484) was originally disclosed and patched as part of Microsoft’s August Patch Tuesday updates. At the time, it was categorized as an arbitrary directory-deletion issue that was considered low-priority because an attacker would need to locally log into the targeted computer to exploit it, which, in theory, would allow the adversary to delete file folders anyway.

But the conditions has been changed by researchers and the priority has been changed for this Bug. As the Official patch has not yet been released my advice would be to play the patience game here and see how it goes.
