Dictation in Word 365 on 2012 R2 RD server

We have a client with a 2012 R2 RD server which has been in use for many years. They have a requirement to use dictation in Word on that server. I have remote microphone working fine (I can record in Sound Recorder) but I cannot make Word detect the microphone and so it will not show the Dictate option.

In checking, I can't see whether this is actually supported, or not. I fear that it isn't, but it seems odd if that's so.

TIA

    Hi @NigelAyres-7142,
    Welcome to Q&A forum!

The following information from this official article: Windows Server end of support and Microsoft 365 Apps.

    • As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft 365 Apps isn’t supported on Windows Server 2012 R2, even though Windows Server 2012 R2 is supported until October 10, 2023.

And please note that using Microsoft 365 Apps on older, unsupported operating systems may cause performance and reliability issues over time. It is recommended that you move to Windows Server 2019 or Windows Virtual Desktop.
    Thanks for your understanding.
Hope the information is helpful to you.
