Screenshots folder

Screenshots: I hate one drive so I uninstalled it but it appears that's the only place my screenshots were saved to. How can I set up a folder for my screenshots to automatically save to? All the online advice is just worthless. I couldn't find an optional screenshot folder anywhere.

Hello, welcome to Microsoft Answers Community.

Please follow these steps to change the directory of the Screenshots folder:

    1. Navigate to *Pictures* (The directory of the place where photos are stored.)
    2. If you have taken a screenshot at least once before, you should see the Screenshots folder.
    3. Right click on the folder and select "Properties" (or press Alt+Enter.)
    4. Select "Location" and edit the directory to where you want to save your screenshots.
    5. Click "Apply", Windows will move all the current screenshots to that directory (You will be prompted to create the folder if it does not exist) then "OK".
    6. From now on, when you take a screenshot, it will automatically save to the new directory.

This only works for the Windows Snipping Tool (snippingtool.exe) and some other third-party screenshot apps. Other applications might offer an option to customize save directory in its own settings.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Unfortunately, I can't find where the screenshot folder original location is. I have tried search and manually to find it but can't find it anywhere.

If you did not change the location, it should be at %userprofile%\Pictures .

If you still do not find that, press WIN + PrtScr to take a screenshot and use search tools to locate the screenshot.

Please type "%userprofile%\Pictures" to the adress bar of File Explorer.

This should help locating to your default "Pictures" folder. In most cases, it is the same as "C:\Users%username%\Pictures".

The screenshots are most likely in the "Screenshots" folder under it.
