Receiving the error message "We can't install the 64-bit version of office because we found the following 32-bit programs on your PC:"

Office 16 click-to-run extensibility component.

Please uninstall all 32-bit office programs, then retry installing 64-bit office. If you want to install 32-bit office instead, please run the 32-bit setup.

How do I do that?

Hello Kipp,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

To resolve this issue let us know the following:

Are you installing a 64 Bit version of Office 2016 or a 32 Bit version of Office 2016? In case you are trying to install a 32 Bit version of Office then this error might appear if there is a 64-Bit version of Microsoft Office installed or there are some components of Microsoft Office. This error could also appear if you had a 64-Bit version of Office installed earlier (which has now been un-installed) but there are still some remnants of the 64 Bit version of Office currently.

Since you have already removed/un-installed a previous installation of Office, to resolve the issue make sure to run the FIXIT (Office removal tool) to un-install any remnants of Office from your computer.

Run the FIXIT in the following Microsoft Article:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Uninstall-Office-2013-Office-2016-or-Office-365-from-a-Windows-computer-9dd49b83-264a-477a-8fcc-2fdf5dbf61d8

Once un-installed make sure to restart the computer and then re-install Office 2016 from the My Account page (URL: http://office.com/myaccount).

For additional information on this issue you may refer to the following Microsoft Article:

If you wish to install the 64 Bit version of Office 365, follow the steps from this Microsoft Article:

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Choose-the-32-bit-or-64-bit-version-of-Office-2dee7807-8f95-4d0c-b5fe-6c6f49b8d261?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

Hope the above information helps.

Thank you.

I am receiving this error when installing the 32-bit version of Visio 2016 with the 32-bit version of Office 2016 installed. Yes, you read that correctly. ALL components are 32-bit versions, and it throws this error.

I'm getting the same thing Allan Bru.  Office 2013 32-bit installed.  Trying to install another 32-bit Office application and I get this error message.  I of course tried the 64-bit installer just for fun and received the message with the numbers swapped, as expected.
