Hello,
I contact you because for like 4 months now, we lost the possibility to start performance counter on our Windows 2016 Servers.
When trying to refresh the servers on the server manager we got the following error : "failed to update the performance counter with the following error: the set of data collectors could not be found.".
But if we connect on a server and we start manually the performance counter it works well.
Do you have an idea on how to resolve this issue ?
Thanks a lot :)

Hello,
Thank you for your answer.
We will try to check logs indeed,
We updated all the servers manually but nothing changed.
It's really strange, on 30 servers, only 3 are working well with performance counters..
Thank you.
I believe by looking into the Event Viewer you may get some clue of what is happening.
Hello, sadly not :(
If that can help you to visualize the problem, here are two screenshots in the server Manager.
Sorry it's in french but the most importants things to know :
On the first screen in the red selection : "Unable to obtain performance meter data"
On the second : "failed to update the performance counter with the following error: the set of data collectors could not be found.".
I have exactly the same problem, and I have encountered the issue before. I never solved the problem. It happens on Remote Desktop Session Host servers only.

Hi Lecmura,
Thank you for your question.
I think it's worth consulting the article below that will address a problem similar to yours about "Manually rebuilding performance counters for Windows Server 2008 64-bit or Windows Server 2008 R2 systems", even if it occurs in another version I believe it can be useful for you, more information about it at the link below:

Hello, thanks a lot for your answer !
Few weeks ago we already tried to manually rebuild performance counters but sadly, it was not solving the issue.
I tried again today to rebuild but not successful again, I also did the steps on regedit, etc but no..
I will still try to find something that can explain this problem, thanks again !

Take a look at:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/performance/rebuild-performance-counter-library-values
Make sure update the Windows Server.
Try restart your server.
In case you have access to a Windows 11 or Windows 10, open the Feedback Hub app and in the category select the Windows Server and report this issue and make sure include the screenshot and any other log files.
