Hybrid VM Insights dependency agent for Ubuntu (Linux) installation fails

Question

If attempting to install VM Insights dependency agent for a Hybrid VM as listed in Enable VM insights for a hybrid virtual machine, we are getting the following error on Ubuntu machines:

Checking installation environment...  
No old version of the Dependency Agent found.  Performing fresh installation.  
  
Extraction of dependency-agent.deb failed.  Installer may be corrupt.  LINE='' SIZE='' SUM=''.  
  
The Dependency Agent was not installed.

This happens after downloading the agent from https://aka.ms/dependencyagentlinux and running sh InstallDependencyAgent-Linux64.bin -s as root and prevents the installation of this agent. The extraction of dependency-agent.deb failure is the key line of the problem, but doesn't give us a way to resolve it.

Sorry for the delay in responding to this.

Goal State Agent in a part of VM Agent (walinux agent), can you please check and ensure that the linux agent is installed and running inside the VM.
Run "sudo waagent --version" the result should be something like below (with Goalstate agent version)
