Original title:Unable to install Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications

I downloaded the Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications and am unable to install it.  I get this error:

"This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor."

I have a laptop with: Intel Core i7 920xm Windows 7 SP1

I downloaded this executable: Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications_IA64.exe

I got the file from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2391

Please help? Did Microsoft post the wrong file here?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting the query in Microsoft community!

From the problem description I understand that, you cannot install Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications.

I would suggest you to perform a standard installation, here are the steps:

    a. Download the Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications from the Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=139521).

    b. In the Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications Wizard, click next.

    c. In the User name box, type your name. If the name of your organization does not show in the Organization field, enter the name of your organization.

    d. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms carefully. If you accept the terms of the agreement, click accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click next to continue installation. If you click I do not accept the License Agreement (Exit Setup), the installation procedure terminates.

    e. To install default Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications components in the default directory, click Standard Installation, and then click next.

I appreciate that you attempted to reply, but you pasted in generic instructions for how to follow an installation wizard, which doesn't address what I asked.  My issue is that I cannot execute the downloaded file - the error is as given.

The solution is simple: You downloaded the package for IA64. You'll need either the x86 or AMD64 package depending on your Windows version.

    Good Luck!

Sorry, I neglected to mention I have Windows 7 64-bit.  As I mentioned, my processor is an Intel i7.  Thus I downloaded the IA64 executable.  x86 and AMD64 don't match my system.

Don't download IA64- it is not the same as x86_64 (x64)

Try this file and see if it installs -

Users who want to install this package in x64 computers should download files that contain amd64 or ia64 in their name, as appropriate."
