Cannot Transfer Windows 10 Enterprise From One Machine To Another

I recently built a new machine and want to transfer my version of windows to my new machine. I have tried getting a generic key from Microsoft to activate as well as using my Microsoft account to transfer the license. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm running on a non activated version of windows! Thanks!!!

Hello,

First, you need to check the type of license installed on your system and identify whether you can transfer your license.

  1. Open administrative Command Prompt.

  2. Type slmgr /dlv and press Enter key.

  3. Note the Product Key Channel section Windows Script Host box:

If it mentions OEM <method>, you’ve OEM license installed.

If it says Retail, you’ve retail license installed.

If it mentions GVLK, VOLUME_<method> then you’ve volume license installed. Note that GVLK stands for Generic Volume License Key.

Retail license have the transfer rights, while OEM license is tied to motherboard and can't be transferred to other machine.

Refer this guide to learn how to transfer your license:

Firstly, want to say thanks for being willing to assist with my issue. Thank you.

I did slmgr /dlv on my new machine and screenshotted what I found below. I am logged into the same Microsoft account that I use with my old machine that has the license which I included in screenshot. Would I still need to check on my old machine to see if its the same or different? Let me know if there is any additional info I would need. Again thanks for the help.

Hello @KeanuBermudez-5013

You need to check what is the kind of activation that your have on your original PC:

You should run the command "slmgr /dlv" to determine the Key Channel.

If you have an OEM activation, it can't be transferred as the installation is made by the manufacturer of the computer and is linked with the motherboard information
For other licensing, such as VLK (Volume Licensing) you will need to contact your Volume Licensing administrator to provide your details for activating the machine.

Hope this helps with your query,
