Monitors reversed

Anonymous
2019-02-11T12:57:55+00:00

Yesterday my dual monitors were working perfectly, monitor 1 (Older, smaller, dvi connection) was on the left, 2 (Newer, larger, dp connection) on the right. Somehow while making adjustments on the "Display" window the order was reversed, and 1 is now on the right. I have tried dozens of times to reconfigure them back by pushing around the icons in the box at the top of the "Display" window, all to no avail. I have read every suggestion for curatives all to no avail. I suspect I have overlooked some little click or sequence that will correct this. The cursor entering on the wrong side is a little maddening. Pleas help.

    Hi Bernie,

    Thanks for the reply. I am glad to hear back from you.

    • Go to Settings->System->Display.
    • Under Select and rearrange displays, select and drag monitor 1 (E2414H) to left (first position), save the changes by clicking on Apply.
    • Now select the display which you want to designate as the primary display device, scroll down and under Multiple displays section, check the checkbox which says Make this my main display.
    • Exit the Settings window and see if you are able to move the cursor across the devices.

    In case the issue persists, I would request to take a screenshot of the display settings page and post it here in your next reply. How to include a screenshot in your post

    Hi Bernie,

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    Display settings can be changed from both Windows settings app and the graphics adapter interface, both methods are given below. Please ensure that you save the settings after you make any changes to them.

    Method 1: Rearranging Display devices using Windows 10 Settings app.

    Go to Settings->System->Display.

    Under Select and rearrange displays, click and drag monitor 1 to left and click on Apply.

    The settings won’t be applied unless you click on Apply.

    Method 2: Setting primary and secondary display using Graphics properties.

    The settings below are specific to a particular graphics adaptor, if you do not find the settings, please reply with the exact model of the graphics adapter for us to help you with the exact settings.

    • Right click on Desktop.
    • Select Graphics properties.
    • Go to Display section and select Multiple displays.
    • Under Primary display, click on the dropdown list and select the monitor that you want to set as the primary display device.
    • Click Apply.
    • Click on Yes when prompted to save the changes.
    • Close the Graphics properties window and check.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

    Thank you, Peer. While my monitors still reflect reverse identities (2 is now one and vice versa) the startup is on the left screen and the working screen is on my right, and that in fact is what I was trying to achieve. The first method did not work, but the second did with a little stumbling around on my part. And the cursor tracks logically between screens.

    Warmly, Bernie

    I lost the logical cursor display and now the cursor must com in a screen from the opposite side. Let me rephrase my question;

    I have two monitors ( the old: Dell E 2414H [DVI] which Windows 10 has designated "2", and the new: Dell UP2516D [DP] which Windows has designated "1". Currently this arrangement leaves me with an anomaly which has the cursor having to enter either screen from the opposite side. While I can with the current setup make my primary page on the left, and my work page on the right  the cursor anomaly is really frustrating. So...How to I reverse numbered designations back to the original... E2414H as "1" and UP2516D as "2'. This would solve the cursor problem and return things to what they were a few days ago. Your previous suggestion has arranged my work spaces properly, but leaves me with the cursor problems. I have followed your previous instructions many times with many iterations and just can't quite get it right. Thanks again. Warm re guards, Bernie

    Tried everything you suggested all to no avail. Upgraded to latest "10" version of Windows. Still getting my working screen as "1" and main screen as "2". Turned off computer and went to bed frustrated. This morning I got up to resume the battle and found that the above configuration was still in place, but with one difference: THE CURSOR IS BEHAVING PROPERLY going from left screen to right as you would expect it. So my right screen is still "1" etc. , but aside everything is perfect. So, problem solved. Thank you.

    Warm regards,

    Bernie
