Massive performance issues after update

Question

Okay so,

I am having massive performance issues and can barely even load game start screens, if at all.
I have a fairly new PC with
AMD Ryzen 5 7600 CPU
and
AMD Radeon RX 6600 GPU

I have played countless hours of Baldurs Gate 3, and it has run fine. Three days ago, I turned on my PC for the first time in 2-3 months and started playing God of War (2018). It ran great all night. Every hour, though, I received a notification to update Windows or delay it an hour. After I was done playing, I updated and shut down. The next day, I couldn't even load in the game.

Most of the time, I would start running the game and it would be stuck unresponsive on a black screen. Sometimes, it would actually start loading the title screen but incredibly slow. The few times I actually managed to click start were even worse. I wasn't sure what happened.

Things I have tried:
Resetting my computer
Uninstalling and reinstalling game
Uninstalling and reinstalling Steam
Updating my drivers
Taking out my graphics card and putting it back in
Resetting my entire computer (I was tired of it not working)

I really don't know what is wrong with it. I would assume it is related to the Windows update. I tried viewing my hardware usage and for some reason it's like my GPU is suddenly getting bottlenecked and won't use past like 5%.

I downloaded diagnostics data viewer and have some "hardware errors" that give "LiveKernelEvent 141." I tried a few things to resolve these based on what I found online to no avail.

Please let me know if there is a way to find out what is wrong with my computer and a way to fix it before I have to take it to a repair shop. Thanks

Thank you for getting back to us.

The stability of an electronic device's connections/electrical characteristics of the internal electronic components is indeed a factor that is potentially not easily noticed straight away.

When connecting the HDMI cable directly to the motherboard, the device may prioritize receiving image signals from the processor's integrated graphics card.

When connecting the HDMI cable to the GPU, the device (monitor) communicates directly with the GPU, which may be the reason why you observe the performance “getting normal”.

If you are currently experiencing new issues, please feel free to share information in this thread.

Just as additional information, if cable is bent, or if the cable is in a position where it can be easily touched by legs, accidental physical movement may cause the device's connection to become unstable.

Thanks for the response.

I think my computer just wasn't communicating with my GPU. It's silly that I didn't try this first, but I just plugged my hdmi cord into the GPU instead of the motherboard and it seems to work fine. It's like my computer just didn't realize my GPU was there. I don't really know why it worked on the first day and then stopped working, but whatever.

If it stops working again I will come back here and try these options, but hopefully that doesn't have to happen. Thanks

We understand the frustration that it interrupts the continuity of the device experience.

The “LiveKernelEvent 141” and the anomalies in GPU behavior may indicate some sort of underlying compatibility issue.

Given that you have already attempted to completely reset the computer, further testing ideas may be more radical.

At the driver level, you could try performing a clean install of the graphics driver and then try a relatively early version of the graphics driver.

At the system level, if it's convenient for you, you may want to try to obtain a Windows 10 system image file with a build date earlier than the one you're experiencing problems with and then perform a clean install of Windows.

This option is often used to further verify that the problem is specific to a combination of hardware and software environments.
