Will try to make a long story short...
Windows 2016 Server running Exchange in a DAG. After applying Windows patches and the last CU, the operating system went through some type of corruption. Through various searches and recommendations, the following commands have been run many times, with some eventual degree of success.
1) Renamed SoftwareDistribution folder to recreate the Windows patch database. Patches running fine now.
2) sfc /scannow many times. Eventually, all corrupt files have been repaired and there is no integrity violation.
3) DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth says the component store is repairable.
4) chkdsk many times and all is good.
The errors observed that I can't correct are...
1) When adding a Role or Feature, "The list to request features available on the specified server failed"
2) When running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth it stops at 93.6% with Error 14, Not enough storage. Tried suggestions such as regedit IRPStackSize value, clearing Temp files, and verifying 100GB of space.
3) When running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth pointing to the Server 2016 ISO, whether it be ESD or WIM, it stops at 85% with Source errors.
