context menu appearing far from mouse

I've got a ContextMenu on an object that inherits a PictureBox. When the user rightclicks on this object the ContextMenu appears several hundred pixels away from the mouse. Is there a way to position it closer because that isn't happening automatically as it should.

but I'm finding it difficult to replicate this problem outside of the app where it has taken residence.
it happens to a class that inherits PictureBox .the Context Menu's 'dislocation' appeared to be consistent regardless of the varying sizes of the vertical SplitContainer (slide up/down) until I changed a bigger horizontal SplitConter(slide right/left) and now the problem has left the building.
sometimes the ContextMenu is directly below where it should be (up to half the screen height) and sometimes not...
I have no explanation for this behavior but it seems to be in remission for the moment.
